From the Private Letter Book of Arthur R. Stephenson of Sydney, New South Wales, covering the years 1897 and 1898.

The book contains carbon copies of 100 letters written by Stephenson, including many job applications and offers to act as commission agent for importers selling products such as cigars, timber and whisky etc.
He offered his services as accountant, book keeper, agent, clerk or salesman.

The tone of the later letters indicates that he probably received many rejections for jobs and limited success as a commission agent.. .
